History of Yuhigaoka Onsen
In 1980, nine Japanese-style inns began excavation of a hot spring in an attempt to create an attraction that would transform the area into a year-round tourist destination, in addition to its beaches (summer was the peak season for visitors at the time). In 1982, two years later, excavation was successfully completed and the hot spring was named Yuhigaura Onsen, or “Sunset Hot Spring,” because its hot water came from a hill that commands a stunning view of the sunset. The spring source is located at a site about 100 meters south from a location about 2 kilometers west of National Route 178, which is 5 minutes by car from this hotel, and excavated to a depth of 95 meters. Now, 600 liters of hot water is pumped up per minute using submersible pumps. In December 2006, the site was re-excavated in order to obtain higher quality hot water. At our hotel, hot water is pumped into our baths directly from the spring source via piping.
